Visit our library with its impressive ceiling paintings – and its inventory of approx. 55,000 books on art from the Middle Ages to Classical Modernity.
In the library of the Suermondt Ludwig Museum – in the magnificent former salons of the Villa Cassalette – you will find our full inventory of books and the assistance of a highly competent librarian. In the peaceful and pleasant atmosphere of the most beautiful reading room in North Rhine-Westphalia, you can obtain information, do research, write, learn, or simply browse. Particularly for teachers and pupils, the library is a perfect place for extra-curricular learning. Whether you are preparing lessons, project papers, research papers or exams, or consolidating a visit to the museum – you'll find a wealth of texts and images here as well as competent assistance in locating information in the literature or on the Internet. Our doors are open to all lovers of art.
A major part of our inventory is recorded here (recognisable by the branch designation "Aachen Suermondt Ludwig" in the copy information). If you are unable to find something, this doesn't mean that we don't have it. Requests for specific titles can be submitted in advance. A reservation is advisable, as some of our inventory is outsourced.
The library is accessible whether you are visiting the museum or not, admission is free of charge and requires no advanced booking.
As a rule, lending of books is not possible.
Connections for laptops and a black-and-white photocopy machine are available.
Closed when the librarian is not in attendance
