Visit our library with its impressive ceiling paintings – and its inventory of approx. 55,000 books on art from the Middle Ages to the mid 20th century.
In the library of the Suermondt Ludwig Museum – in the magnificent former salons of the Villa Cassalette – you will find our inventory of books and the assistance of a competent librarian. In the peaceful and pleasant atmosphere of one of the most beautiful reading rooms in North Rhine-Westphalia, you can obtain information, do research, write, learn, or simply browse. Particularly for teachers and pupils, the library is a perfect place for extra-curricular learning. Whether you are preparing lessons, project papers, research papers or exams, or consolidating a visit to the museum – you'll find a wealth of texts and images here as well as competent assistance in locating information in the literature or on the Internet. Our doors are open to all lovers of art.
Here, in the OPAC of the Stadtbibliothek Aachen, a major part of our inventory is recorded (recognisable by the entry "Kunstbibliothek im Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum“ at the information „Standort“).
If you are unable to find something, this doesn't mean that we don't have it – just ask me.
Requests for specific titles can be submitted in advance. A reservation is advisable, as some of our inventory is outsourced.
The library is accessible whether you are visiting the museum or not, admission is free of charge and requires no advanced booking.
As a rule, lending of books is not possible.
Connections for laptops and a black-and-white photocopy machine (with the possibility to scan on your USB) are available.
