Research traineeship 2023/ 2024
As a municipal art museum with a focus on European Christian art from the Middle Ages to the Baroque, the Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum (SLM) faces both challenges and opportunities when it comes to communicating its extensive collection.
As part of a two-year research traineeship, the focus was therefore on communicating Christian art to the public using the example of the medieval collection. The project was entitled: “Other perspectives on medieval art. Approaches for people of different world views and faiths”.
The strategic aim of the project was to break down potential barriers in relation to the institution of the museum and Christian art by including “other perspectives” and presenting a variety of points of contact, and to enable more fellow citizens to enjoy art. The project made an important contribution to the continuous opening of the SLM and its establishment as a relevant place for cultural education, participation and identification. It encompassed the following aspects:
Networking and community building with cooperation partners
Interreligious dialogue in front of medieval originals, including a two-day symposium in cooperation with the non-profit Gingko Foundation and the International Center for Comparative Theology and Social Issues (CTSI) at the University of Bonn
Professional exchange and presentation of the project at specialist conferences
Development and practical implementation of concepts, including QR code tour “Highlights of the Medieval Collection” and interactive workshop for school classes in the subjects of art, religion, history and philosophy
Mobile feedback station “From you onto paper!”
Exhibition “Ansichtssachen - alte Schätze neu betrachtet” in cooperation with the Aachener Werkstätten der Lebenshilfe (03.10.2024 to 09.02.2025) with a manual in Einfacher Sprache
